New in 2023, the Fat Bottom Hen, or FBH, is the one call that gives you everything you need in a great mallard call. It features solid mid-range and low-end performance every time; while effortless volume, appropriate for all hunting situations, is always at the ready. Feeding chuckles, bottom end quacks and purrs easily roll off the FBH. Like all Sutter Basin calls, the FBH is made here in our Southwest Idaho shop with Sutter Basin’s high standards and full attention to detail. For a while now, we’ve been looking for new ways to increase air velocity through a single reed duck call using compound bore size/shape manipulation. Well, we found that sweet spot in our 1-5X single reed. This call has a ton of middle and bottom end duck. It’s super easy to control and will easily produce huge volume or soft and whiney lonesome hen sounds. We like to call it a “live duck” or “pure meat” style of call that can pull birds from the Heavens! -
While the entire line-up of single reed Sutter Basin Duck Calls are easy to blow, some of our customers simply prefer a double reed call and find them easier to control. Unfortunately, in the past these hunters had to settle for lower quality, mass produced calls. Adding to the dilemma, these calls often failed to deliver a convincing full range of duck sounds. Sutter Basin Duck Calls has solved this problem with our short barrel double reed call. Hand tuned with the same materials and quality as our single reed calls, we have developed a double reed that is not only easy to blow, but delivers great low-end rasp and ducky mid-range quacks and hails.
